Do you ever randomly scroll through your social media timeline and see a fashion influencer wearing something that instantly catches your eye and makes you want to have the same thing? Luckily, you instantly find it and think it has to be meant for you. While you wait for your order to arrive you visualize all the ways you are going to wear it like a queen and then imagine people telling you “you wore it better” which will make you feel at the top of the world. At last, the day you have been eagerly waiting for arrives; your next top favorite product is finally at your doorstep! There, there, you are just one step away from living THE moment, but then in few seconds, your dreams are shattered! It turns out to be exactly the opposite of what you had in your mind. That is when you ask yourself, “Why? What did I do to deserve this?” Worry not, because there is a genuine explanation behind why it was never meant for you!

You Never Got the Product You Ordered

With online shopping comes free scam most of the time. Just because you see a product that looks exactly like the one you desire does not mean they are going to send you the same thing. Thousands of people get scammed through online shopping EVERY SINGLE DAY. Online shopping seems like the easiest way but that does not make it the most reliable one. People tend to look at the perks of a thing until they face the cons themselves. Individuals prefer online shopping over the conventional ways these days because it looks more convenient, it gives you several choices and your favorite thing is just a click away without you putting much effort, and to be honest, who doesn’t like getting things done with minimal movement involved? But what we forget is how with several advantages come few disadvantages, scamming being one of the biggest when it comes to online shopping. In Hong Kong alone “In 2018, online shopping scams bilked people out of approximately 41.9 million Hong Kong dollars.” This proves with the development and growth of the online industry the number of scammers has been increasing too. So, you ordering that perfect item for yourself and getting something different is normal for many people out there.

It Was Never Meant For You

Now, imagine you get the right product but it doesn’t look good on you and you ask yourself WHY? Well, that is because people need to understand that one thing looking good on a person does not mean it will look good on them too. Instead of following fashion bloggers and icons blindly and getting everything they try on themselves believing it will make you look as good as them is a very wrong presumption and you’re not just wasting your money but also your time. This will also get you to lose confidence in yourself when it was never your fault in the first place. Always know that you build your own fashion sense and not just copy anyone you like. The whole “fashion influencers” culture brings you nothing but low self-esteem which negatively affects your mental health when you see yourself not looking like the person you look up to. Always remember, we all carry ourselves differently, we all have diverse personalities, which means if something looks good on an individual does not mean it will look good on you too. The quicker you understand fashion is how you enhance yourself with what you have and not what others want you to have the easier your life will get. You don’t have to look like your influencer to look good; you just have to be YOU to shine bright like a diamond.

It Was Never the Product that Attracted You but the Person Carrying it

Another reason why your desired product does not give you your desired look is that it was never the product but the person carrying it that attracted you. Again, we all carry ourselves differently, the models and influencers have their way of doing things and it will take us lots of hard work and time to get where they are right now, so to expect ourselves to look the same way a person who has put lots of efforts and years of hard work to get where they are right now is just us being cruel on ourselves. These influences have whole teams working on their styles and they have developed a fashion sense over the years, so for us to compete with their look after seeing their one picture is almost impossible. Next time something catches your eyes, give yourself good five minutes and think about how you are going to carry that item in your style, and if you get there, run for it but if you realize it’s not for you, give up on it and look for something that suits your personality better and that will help you shine in your skin.

So, in the future, instead of instantly going “why me?” think where it went wrong, it could be because you got the wrong item, it could be because the product was never meant for you or it could be because it was never the product that attracted you but the whole look of the person that made you instantly search for it. Looking up to fashion influencers is not a bad thing, but recklessly following them can create complications for you, so always get inspiration but use your ideas to build your personality and fashion sense, and once you reach there you will never need an influencer to tell you what product will go with your look instead you will be the one influencing people for making the fashion trends that make you feel comfortable in your skin.
