The past year has been very hard upon us all, we had to let go of things we loved keeping our health as our priority. Now that the travel restrictions have finally loosened, it is time people get back to what they have always liked doing. And to be honest, who doesn’t want a break after going through all the mental distress? So, if you’re looking for a spot to spend some time alone, away from the stressful news and your fancy world, Bahawalpur has to be your next stop because this city will not only give you peace and warmth but will also provide you with enough stories about love, struggle, history, and kindness that will get you going for a very long time to come.

Known as the city of palaces, Bahawalpur was previously a princely state situated between 7 walls, ruled by the Nawabs of the Abbasi family in the mid 17s. At the time of independence, the princely states were given an option to either join Pakistan or stay with India. The Nawab of Bahawalpur preferred moving with Pakistan which led to most of the Indians leaving the state. The city is known for its peace and hospitality. Bahawalpur is a great place for holidays if you are looking for something not very fancy and huge but vintage with an aesthetic touch. Every corner of the city has a story to tell, there is so much to explore that you never have a dull moment. You start with one corner, and till you reach the other, you already feel at home because of how warmly the people of the city welcome you. Being the 11th largest city of Pakistan, it has people come from different provinces representing diverse cultures and languages but grouped as one by mixing beautifully in various colors of the city.

All around the country, the city is known for its beautiful architectural legacy and history. There is not just one or two but several historical places that can instantly make you go ‘wow, how did I miss that?’. The palaces, the schools, the gates and many other magnificent places to see in the city have their own chronicles. With each step you take, you find something new, something wonderful about the town, its history, and its people. Each place has a never-ending tale to tell, a story of sacrifice, a story of love, a story of struggle, all found in one place. The palaces to see in the city are, Noor Mahal, Darbar Mahal, Gulzar Mahal, and Dubai Mahal, all built with passion, and hard work. The old city of Bahawalpur was known as the walled city because it was located between 7 walls that carry immense cultural value to its people. The gates include Mori, Bohar, Multani, Bikaneri, Ahmedpuri, Shikarpuri, and Multani Gate which add to the glory of the city by beautifying it. Sightseeing is not the only thing the city offers, it has one of the finest educational institutes built to age including Sadiq Public School, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, and The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. It also has a museum, a national park, and a library. It’s a package that has all in one and I’m sure you would not want to miss a place like that.

Clothes are a vital part of a person’s life, and Bahawalpur has a wide variety of what to wear and how to look beautiful in the simplest yet elegant styles. Bahawalpur has different styles of clothes available which can hardly be seen in other parts of the world that too in affordable prices. The exclusive varieties available are chunri, makaesh, and gotta. These types of clothes are mostly used by people on different festivals but can also be worn on other occasions as well. You have a wedding going on in Pakistan and you don’t see at least one person wearing one of these kinds’ sounds almost impossible to me at least. The vibrant colors and various designs give you an excellent look overall. Other than the customary clothes available in the city, fabrics with hand embroidery are also commonly sold and are highly in demand. In shoes, the most famous item has to be khusa which is generally available and that too in very economical amount. When it comes to jewelry, Bahawalpur is again in the race towards the top because of how unique yet stunning jewelry pieces are being sold across the city.

When you have seen enough places and bought enough things you’ll probably need a place to eat. Bahawalpur offers a variety of cuisines, from big food chains, fancy restaurants to small eateries, all are available in the city. The food here is delicious and that’s not it, having food choices from across the globe to the country easily accessible in the town, Bahawalpur has some of its own specialties too, one of them being the sohan halwa. It’s a sweet dish with nuts and dry fruits available in most old halwa shops across the city and also used as a form of gift for people around the country. Another thing available in the city for you to eat is yet again a sweet dish known as falooda. Made of khoya and served with boiled noodles, once you have it you will probably be rushing back again for it because you never get tired of it, and it’s never enough.

Bahawalpur is a place worth a visit, not only because it has so many places to admire, so many things to buy and such a vast variety of food being offered but also because once you come here you will leave with beautiful memories and stories to tell. The people, the places and the experience this city has to offer might be once in a lifetime chance for some but once you go back you would instantly want to come again. So don’t miss this opportunity to travel to a city that still holds historical and traditional values with enthusiastic and artistic significance.
